Maker: Porter Bass Estate - Poco á Poco

Grape: Chardonnay

Origin: Ghianda Rose Vineyards, Mendocino, California

Farming Practices: Biodynamic

Why we love it:

Who: The Bass family found a run-down, century-old, vineyard overlooking Guernville, CA  in 1980 and began the arduous process of reviving the vines. Growing grapes and making wine is poco a poco, little by little. They believe we live in a time when most things can be made, ordered, and consumed in a matter of days. The beauty of winegrowing is that we must live poco a poco.

What/How: The grapes are from the Ghianda Rose Vineyard in Mendocino. The vines are 20-30 years old and are farmed biodynamically. The wine underwent a native primary and secondary fermentation and aging in neutral French oak.

Tasting Notes: This Chardonnay is aged in neutral oak barrels giving it a beautiful roundness without the distraction of baking spice and vanilla that so often dominates new oak aged Chardonnay. This has a lively burst of pineapple and Meyer lemon notes balanced with just the right amount of ripeness.
Pairs With: Roasted chicken, scallops, buttery fish
