Maker: Broc Cellars
Origin:Fox Hill Vineyard, Mendocino, California
Farming Practices: Organic
Why we love it:
Who: Founded by Chris Brockway, Berkeley-based Broc represents wines that are site specific, only using organic/biodynamic grapes from marginal climates, and minimal intervention in the cellar.
What/How: It’s not well known that there is Nero d’Avola planted in California, but from 15-year-old vines of Fox Hill Vineyard near Ukiah, this is a classic homage to some of the great Neros of Sicily.
Tasting Notes: Packed with bright, intense fruit; plum and pepper on the nose. 10% of the grapes are fermented in terracotta vessels for added complexity.
Pairs With: Pairs well with pasta dishes, gamey meats (as well as board games), barbecue with friends.
